Snoop's story
We had never had a dog. Not as children, not as adults. When we decided to get one we already knew what we wanted him to become: a dog who could come to work with us and make the rooms we walk into a little calmer.
Puppy training came first. Then five months of gentle exposure to the world. Woods and parks, then pubs, hotels, high streets, garden centres and bus stops. Other dogs who could show him how to behave. New floors, new noises, new hats. Small steps, never a swarm.
In September 2026 Jenny Duckworth, founder of The Dog Mentor, spent a day with us and with Snoop. She watched him meet a stranger, walk through the park, learn a new trick and settle on his blanket. He passed his Bronze assessment. We passed our Silver. The work starts now.
What he is like
The human

Sasha works one to one with children in school, at home and in the community. Many of the children she supports are autistic, non-verbal, anxious or not attending school. She has a foundation in drama therapy and years of experience as a learning support assistant.
Snoop is her colleague on the days it helps. He gives a child something to look at that is not an adult, and something to talk about that is not themselves.
Snoop is one of more than 900 dogs on The Dog Mentor programme, working in around 800 settings across the UK, with 1,900 trained humans and a research team at the University of Lincoln behind them.
